Irritants among other things

You know those little dumb things you happen upon in life that shouldn't be a problem but after a bombardment of them they seem to constantly appear?

Makes no sense? Let me explain.

Some of my irritants: roses along with other tacky bouquets, white carpet, people hating Obama and liberals just because that's what everyone else around them does, extremely nice people, hair decorations, rhinestones, bikini lines and strapless tops, long fingernails....

This list could really go on forever. But why should any of those dumb little things matter? If people want to demolish any sense of dignity they had going for them then I should simply smile and wave... smile and wave.

There are also the dumb little things that make your day for the most pointless reasons.

For instance: the smell of strawberry syrup, the way someone looks at you, being handed free pizza on the way to class, the rare shade of teal, a bee crawling on your hand (some of us appreciate that), using a shampoo to fit your day. . .

Again, these things could go on forever and ever. Blah blah blah blah blah.  . . .

And perhaps just like irritants they shouldn't matter either. Maybe you should just watch them walk by and smile and wave.

But then there is no point to anything. No feeling. No reaction. No frustration. No skipping a heartbeat.

My conclusion? Thrive on every moment. The irritants and the "make your day" moments.

Because they're real. They make you feel something. They produce that additional ounce of adrenaline when you want to throw something at the wall or you want to hug someone and never let go.

And the little things fill in for the great moments of your life.

The fighting. The falling in love.

The F. The A.

No matter how many hair changes, cartons of Ben and Jerry's, bags of lettuce, fluffy pillow, glass of water, fresh air moments that occur...

You still live.

  1. This is beautiful, by the way. I really wish I could express things as well as you do.
